Wacky Weather

We were supposed to get some severe weather today across North Alabama, and this is what we got here on Sand Mountain. No, we didn't get tornados, but this has to be one of the weirdest color skies I have ever seen. This photo is unretouched, this is how red it was. I've seen green, yellow, orange and blue, but never red like this. Carson asks what causes this, any answers? Weird, wacky weather.

I'm not a meteorologist, but a lot of times, it's caused by dust or dirt in the air. Could be that Alabama red clay!

After the May 3, 1999 tornadoes in Oklahoma City, the sky looked like that. It was all the red sandstone dirt that had been blown up from the outbreak. Could be what happened here. I just got back to Bama tonight from Arkansas so I would have to look to see what happened.

BTW, hi, I'm April...I've been reading y'all's blogs for a while now and just now have been commenting. Hope you had a good Thanksgiving.

Just saw this picture from the Mesonet on the Earth Science Photo of the day page and it reminded me of this picture you took...
